New Delhi, February 26: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is currently on a two-day visit to Israel. He was warmly welcomed by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his wife, Sara Netanyahu. During the visit, Netanyahu hosted a dinner for Modi, surprising everyone by donning traditional Indian attire.
Netanyahu shared this moment on social media, stating, “Before our joint dinner, I surprised my friend Prime Minister Modi by wearing traditional Indian attire.”
Earlier at the airport, Netanyahu and his wife greeted Modi. When Sara Netanyahu shook hands with Modi, the Israeli PM noticed their matching outfits and smiled, saying, “Look, my wife’s saffron matches yours.” The three shared a hearty laugh.
Notably, Prime Minister Modi addressed the Israeli parliament, becoming the first Indian PM to do so. The chamber resonated with cheers for Modi, as Israeli lawmakers stood to greet him, and the Speaker welcomed him in Hindi.
During his address, Netanyahu expressed his joy, saying, “I must tell you, Narendra, my dear friend, I am very happy to have you here today. I have never been happier to welcome a great friend of Israel, a champion of the India-Israel alliance, and a great leader on the world stage. Welcome to Jerusalem, my dear friend, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and your esteemed delegation.”
He further added, “I would dare to say that you are more than a friend; you are my brother. The last time you were here, we were both on the Mediterranean coast, and I suggested, ‘Why don’t we take off our shoes and walk into the water?’ We didn’t walk on water, but since then, we have performed miracles. We have doubled our trade, tripled our cooperation, and quadrupled our understanding.”
