Kathmandu, March 1: In response to escalating military tensions between the United States and Iran, Nepal has canceled over a dozen flights to various cities in the Gulf region. This decision comes after Iran’s retaliatory actions against U.S. military bases in Israel and the Gulf, prompting several countries to close their airspace and halt civilian flights.
Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) authorities reported that by Saturday evening, a total of 14 flights scheduled to depart from and arrive at Kathmandu to various cities in West Asia were canceled. TIA operates under the Nepal Civil Aviation Authority (CAAN).
According to officials, multiple flights operated by Nepal Airlines, Himalaya Airlines, Qatar Airways, Air Arabia, Flydubai, and Kuwait Airways were affected, with Himalaya Airlines canceling the most flights—six in total.
The cancellations have left many passengers stranded at Tribhuvan International Airport, leading to overcrowding in the terminal as travelers awaited further information.
Himalaya Airlines issued a notice on social media stating, “Due to the current situation in the Middle Eastern airspace, all our flights to Dubai, Dammam, and Doha are canceled until further notice. Passengers are advised to stay updated through our official social media channels and website.”
Nepal Airlines also announced that flights RA 229/230 (Kathmandu-Dubai-Kathmandu) and RA 239 (Kathmandu-Doha-Kathmandu), scheduled for February 28 and March 1, 2026, have been canceled until further notice. Updates regarding flights to Dammam will be provided soon.
Earlier, TIA authorities had warned passengers that some international flights might be delayed, rescheduled, or canceled. Travelers were urged to confirm the latest status of their flights with the respective airlines before heading to the airport.
Airport administration stated that they are coordinating with airlines and relevant agencies to ensure smooth passenger movement.
