Thimphu, September 17 (Daily Kiran) : Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar recently completed a three-day visit to Bhutan, where he met with Prime Minister Lotay Tshering. Their discussions focused on the shared democratic values between India and Bhutan, as well as the role of spirituality and culture in strengthening the friendship between the two nations.
The Election Commission of India announced that Kumar attended Bhutan’s National Voter’s Day celebrations on September 15, where he engaged in talks with the Prime Minister. They exchanged views on the importance of these democratic values and how spirituality and culture contribute to the close ties between their peoples.
Kumar also served as the chief guest at an event marking National Voter’s Day and International Democracy Day, held at the Jigme Singye Wangchuck School of Law in Paro. During this event, he addressed young voters and launched an Election and Results Administrative System along with an e-learning course. Additionally, he presented awards to winners of a democracy reel competition.
Earlier in his visit, Kumar met with King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck in Thimphu. An official statement prior to the trip emphasized that this visit aims to strengthen institutional cooperation between the Election Commission of India and the Election Commission of Bhutan, enhancing ongoing collaboration between the two bodies.
The Election Commission of India has a history of sharing experiences related to democratic processes and election management with various countries to promote cooperation among democratic institutions.
