NDA Leaders Call for Improved Education in Madrasas, Reject Terror Activities

Lucknow, August 4: The Uttar Pradesh government’s decision to halt the issuance of Kamil (Graduation) and Fazil (Post-Graduation) degrees in madrasas has sparked reactions from ministers and legislators. Leaders emphasize the need for better education in madrasas, stating that they should not be associated with terrorist activities.

Minister Narendra Kumar Kashyap remarked, “Madrasas should provide quality education. They must not be linked to terrorist activities, and the future of children should not be compromised. It is the government’s responsibility, and that is why we are moving forward with reforms.”

Om Prakash Rajbhar, president of the Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party and a minister, clarified that this decision is not the government’s but a directive from the Supreme Court. He stated, “A proposal is being presented in the cabinet to comply with the Supreme Court’s order. Once it is approved, it will be implemented.”

Rajbhar further explained, “If you operate a madrasa without UGC approval from the Government of India and issue degrees, those degrees will be considered fake. This applies to all madrasas.”

Minister Danish Azad Ansari noted, “Following the Supreme Court’s directives, the Uttar Pradesh Madrasa Board has been instructed to link its undergraduate and postgraduate degrees with a university. Our intention has always been to work for the welfare of the Muslim community.”

Minister JPS Rathore added, “Certainly, madrasas should become centers of modern education, where students can acquire contemporary knowledge and contribute to the development of the state and the nation.”

BJP legislator Rajesh Chaudhary also supported the government’s decision, stating, “The education system that is constitutional should remain, and what is unnecessary should be eliminated.”

Currently, madrasas recognized by the UP Madrasa Board issue Kamil and Fazil degrees, which are considered equivalent to graduation and post-graduation. After the cabinet proposal is passed, madrasas will be limited to providing education only up to the 12th grade.
