New Delhi: The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has arrested two drug traffickers near the India-Myanmar border and seized 7.31 kilograms of heroin worth nearly Rs 15 crore. The consignment originated from Hachin city in Myanmar, officials confirmed on Thursday.
The traffickers attempted to smuggle the heroin concealed inside 638 soap containers. This seizure is part of the intensified crackdown by the NCB on cross-border drug smuggling from Myanmar.
The agency has significantly increased surveillance and enforcement along sensitive routes in the Northeast region to combat narcotics trafficking. According to NCB sources, persistent vigilance and strict enforcement on traditional smuggling corridors have forced drug syndicates to shift to dense forests and river routes to evade capture.
Highlighting this changing pattern, the NCB’s Guwahati regional unit recently seized around 7 kilograms of heroin in Jiribam. This operation underscores the effectiveness of inter-regional coordination and intelligence-based actions in tackling drug trafficking.
Based on specific intelligence gathered over time, the NCB’s Imphal zonal unit conducted swift action against an international drug trafficking network operating from Myanmar into Manipur. On January 7, the unit intercepted a Bolero vehicle near the India-Myanmar border and arrested two individuals identified as Ginkhavmalian and Mangboi Simte, residents of the Multam area in Churachandpur district, Manipur.
During a thorough search of the vehicle, authorities recovered 7.312 kilograms of high-quality heroin hidden inside 638 soap containers. Preliminary investigations revealed that the drugs were transported from Hachin, Myanmar, and smuggled through forest corridors in Manipur to avoid urban surveillance systems, police checkpoints, and security camps.

This operation marks another significant achievement in the NCB’s ongoing efforts to dismantle drug trafficking networks along the India-Myanmar border and curb the influx of narcotics into the country.
