New Delhi, March 31: The political discourse surrounding Naxalism in India has intensified once again. Following recent comments by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, leaders from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) assert that Naxalism is nearly eradicated, with remaining insurgents reportedly surrendering.
Anil Rajbhar, a minister in the Uttar Pradesh government, criticized the Congress party, claiming that previous administrations were responsible for the rise of Naxalism and other internal security challenges. He also highlighted the issue of infiltration in Assam, accusing Congress of attempting to alter the state’s demographics for political gain. Rajbhar emphasized that the people of Assam are now aware and firmly support the BJP.
He recalled a time when Naxalites launched significant attacks in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, causing substantial damage to the Congress leadership. Praising the current government, he stated that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, the challenge of Naxalism has been effectively managed. Rajbhar also responded to comments from Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav, suggesting that supporters of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee should demonstrate their political strength in West Bengal rather than Uttar Pradesh. He criticized the political campaigns circulating on social media.
Meanwhile, Om Prakash Rajbhar, another minister in the Uttar Pradesh government, labeled Naxalism as a national concern. He stated that if Naxalites are entering India from abroad, it is the government’s moral duty to address this issue. He urged the central government to work continuously towards ensuring the nation’s safety.
In response to a statement from Mamata Banerjee, Om Prakash Rajbhar also took a jab at the BJP, claiming that during elections, attempts are made to distract the public by raising religious and food-related issues.
