Nahida Akter Appointed as New T20 Captain of Bangladesh Womens Cricket Team
Nahida Akter has been named the new T20 captain of Bangladeshs womens cricket team, with Shobhana Mostari as her deputy.

Dhaka, October 18 (Daily Kiran) : The Bangladesh Women’s Cricket Team has a new leader as left-arm spinner Nahida Akter has been appointed the T20 International captain. She takes over from wicketkeeper-batter Nigar Sultana, who stepped down after the 2026 Asian Games.
Shobhana Mostari has been named as the team’s vice-captain. According to reports, Rafiqul Islam, chairman of the women’s wing of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), stated, “After discussions with the selection panel and others, we decided to appoint Nahida as the T20 International captain. Shobhana Mostari will be her deputy.”
Nahida served as Nigar’s deputy since Nigar was appointed captain in 2022, making her promotion a widely anticipated move. Rafiqul noted that after four years of working with Nigar, it was the right time for Nahida to take on this responsibility.
Nigar had decided to resign from the T20 captaincy to focus more on her playing career after the Asian Games in Japan, a move that surprised the board. Reports suggest that the 29-year-old was not pleased with the BCB’s recent treatment of her. Despite stepping down from T20 leadership, Nigar will continue to captain the team in the 50-over format, having recently led them in a three-match ODI series against Australia.
With this change, Bangladesh will have separate captains for both white-ball formats—T20 and ODI. The team’s next T20 International tournament is the ICC Women’s Emerging Nations Trophy in Thailand, where they will begin their campaign against Pakistan on November 12.
This tournament will mark Nahida’s first assignment as T20 captain, offering her a prime opportunity to strengthen her leadership and define her tenure. Additionally, it will serve as an initial chance for Nahida and her deputy Shobhana to establish a cohesive leadership partnership.
