Washington, March 2: Former Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett stated on Sunday that Israel’s military operations against Iran are gradually undermining the regime’s grip on power. He claims that ongoing attacks are weakening the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), thereby providing the Iranian people an opportunity to determine their own future.
In an interview with Fox News Sunday, Bennett remarked, “We have multiple targets to weaken the regime and the IRGC. We are encircling the entire terrorist apparatus that terrorizes its own people.”
Bennett explained that the initial phase of the military operation focused on targeting top leadership. He said, “The first wave aimed to remove the leadership.” He noted that after weakening Iran’s air defense system, steps can now be taken to dismantle the broader security framework.
“When you strike at the main command and operational centers, you weaken the entire apparatus. We are weakening the chains of oppression on the Iranian people. Ultimately, breaking those chains lies in the hands of the Iranian public,” he added.
Bennett emphasized that Israel’s goal is not regime change but self-defense. He stated, “Israel’s precise objective was not regime change. Our goal is to defend ourselves and eliminate the terrible threat that has loomed over us for a long time.”
He claimed that if action is not taken soon, Iran could possess thousands of ballistic missiles, intercontinental missiles, and nuclear weapons that could target Israel, Europe, and the United States.
According to Bennett, the IRGC is not in the same position it once was. He stated, “Today’s IRGC is not the same as it was a month ago. It has weakened significantly. Its commander has been removed, and a large part of its leadership has been eliminated.”
However, he acknowledged that uncertainty remains regarding any potential popular uprising or political change within Iran. “No one knows what will happen inside. It could occur in days, months, or perhaps not at all,” he said.
Bennett compared the situation in Iran to the Soviet Union in the 1980s, noting that the timing of its collapse was also unpredictable. He remarked, “It is a similar regime—filled with corruption, decay, and disconnection from the public.”
It is important to note that Israel has long viewed Iran’s nuclear and missile programs as a threat to its existence. Tensions between the two countries have escalated over Tehran’s activities in the Middle East and its support for armed groups.
