Munger, July 10: Munger police have made a significant breakthrough in the fight against illegal arms trafficking by arresting a suspect involved in smuggling. The accused was found in possession of five country-made pistols, ten magazines, a motorcycle, and a mobile phone. Initial investigations revealed that this shipment of weapons was brought from Bhagalpur and was intended for delivery to another individual.
Sadar SDPO Abhishek Anand informed the media that they received a tip-off about a person riding a black motorcycle with illegal firearms in the Bariyarpur police station area. Upon confirming the information, senior officials were notified. A joint team from Bariyarpur police and the District Intelligence Unit (DIU) promptly initiated a vehicle inspection operation near Teenbatiya. During the search, they attempted to stop a suspicious motorcycle rider, who tried to flee. The police team apprehended him and conducted a thorough search. They discovered five country-made pistols in a bag attached to the motorcycle, along with five separate magazines and an additional five magazines loaded in the pistols, totaling ten magazines. The police also seized the motorcycle and the mobile phone from the scene.
During interrogation, the arrested suspect identified himself as Mohammad Sadakat Ansari, also known as Karku, a resident of Kalyanchak, Sitakund (Mufassil police area). He revealed that an unidentified individual near a line hotel at Bhagwanath Chowk in Bhagalpur had handed him the shipment of weapons. He was on his way to deliver these firearms to his associate, Mohammad Salim, also known as Phalosan, who resides in Vardha.
SDPO Abhishek Anand stated that further questioning revealed that Sadakat had previously delivered similar shipments of weapons from Bhagalpur to Phalosan. However, he did not know the identity of the person supplying the firearms. He only transported the weapons based on Phalosan’s instructions. Currently, police are conducting raids to arrest Mohammad Salim, and they are also working to identify the individual in Bhagalpur who supplied the weapons to Sadakat. Both technical and manual methods are being employed to investigate the entire network to uncover the full extent of the arms smuggling operation.
Investigations have also revealed that Sadakat received only two to three thousand rupees for each delivery. He admitted to having previously delivered a similar shipment of weapons and received the same amount then. Police suspect that once the firearms reached Phalosan, they were sold to others. Authorities are conducting a thorough investigation into the seized weapons and the entire network associated with this case.
