Mumbai Police Busts Fake Apple Accessories Racket, Six Shopkeepers Charged

Mumbai, March 20: Mumbai police have made a significant breakthrough against counterfeit branded goods by dismantling an organized mobile accessories racket in the Ghatkopar area. The Pant Nagar police station team seized fake products worth approximately ₹16.33 lakh being sold under the Apple brand. Six shopkeepers have been charged in connection with this case.

According to police reports, the operation was conducted based on a tip-off. It was revealed that several shops in the Patel Chowk and Nilyog Mall areas of Ghatkopar East were selling fraudulent mobile accessories under the name of Apple Inc. A strategic plan was devised, and the team was divided into six groups to conduct simultaneous raids.

During the operation, six shops were targeted, where counterfeit goods were discovered. The seized items included mobile chargers, adapters, USB cables, mobile covers, back panels, earphones, AirPods, and batteries. Police stated that all these products were exact replicas of the Apple brand and were sold to customers as genuine.

The operation also involved representatives from Apple Inc., who confirmed on-site that all seized items were counterfeit. They utilized specialized training and technical identification methods for verification.

Investigations revealed that the accused were using the Apple logo and designs without any authorized permission. They purchased fake goods at low prices and sold them at inflated rates, claiming them to be authentic.

Police have registered cases against all six shopkeepers under Sections 51 and 63 of the Copyright Act. The seized goods have been sealed and sent for further investigation.

Authorities have stated that the campaign against counterfeit branded goods in the city will continue, and efforts are underway to locate other individuals involved in this racket.
