
Mumbai, 30 December: The Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026 is set to commence on 9 January, with the opening match featuring the defending champions Mumbai Indians against Royal Challengers Bangalore. Mumbai Indians, led by captain Harmanpreet Kaur who has won the title twice in the last three seasons, have started their preparations for the upcoming season.
The Mumbai Indians’ training camp is now underway. Under the guidance of head coach Lisa Keightley, bowling coach and team mentor Jhulan Goswami, and batting coach Devika Palshikar, players including Saika Ishaque, Sajna S, Sanskriti Gupta, Poonam Khemanar, Triveni Vashishth, N Kranti Reddy, and Rahila Firdaus have begun their pre-season training. The sessions focus on fitness and skill assessment, helping players reconnect with the match routine under the coaching staff’s supervision.
Head coach Lisa Keightley said, “It is really good. We have had one training session so far. Working with the domestic players has been very positive. I am genuinely excited to see what they can do. The training camp before the season is a great opportunity to observe the players, interact with them, and build relationships. From what I have seen so far, I am very impressed and enthusiastic.”
The Women’s Premier League 2026 will be held from 9 January to 5 February. A total of 22 matches will be played among five teams at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai and the Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara. Mumbai Indians won the first and the last season in the last three years (2023, 2024, 2025), while RCB claimed the 2024 title. Delhi Capitals have reached the finals for three consecutive seasons but have yet to win the championship.
