Patna, February 19: Former Bihar minister Mukesh Sahni launched a fierce attack on the BJP government regarding the liquor ban on Thursday. He accused the BJP of creating a continuous atmosphere to end the liquor ban and demanded accountability for the ₹40,000 crore loss incurred due to this policy.
During his visit to Patna, Sahni criticized the BJP, stating that lifting the liquor ban would indicate the party’s inability to maintain law and order in Bihar. He claimed that the BJP is persistently fostering an environment to resume alcohol sales in the state.
Sahni pointed out that the BJP had initially justified the liquor ban by citing the safety of women. However, he argued that the party has failed to manage the state and law enforcement effectively. He emphasized that the BJP must answer for the annual loss of ₹40,000 crore caused by the ban.
He further alleged that the BJP aims to undermine Bihar. Sahni claimed that every leader in Bihar has been tasked with sending money to Delhi via chartered planes each month. He suggested that with little left in Bihar, the BJP is now attempting to create a narrative to lift the liquor ban for profit.
Sahni recalled Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s vision of making Bihar a state akin to Gandhi’s ideals, similar to Gujarat, where alcohol is banned, and people lead fulfilling lives. He noted that with Kumar currently unwell, the BJP has gained an upper hand. He questioned who would be held accountable for the losses incurred.
In response to the controversial topic of increasing birth rates, Sahni also criticized Mohan Bhagwat. He expressed concern over the government’s inaction while people in Bihar suffer from hunger, lack of medical care, and access to clean drinking water. He urged the government to address these pressing issues before discussing population growth.
