Actor Mohit Malik shares insights on his challenging role as Birju Lohar in Mirzapur: The Movie, highlighting character complexity.

Mumbai, October 30 (Daily Kiran) : Actor Mohit Malik has taken on a formidable role in the crime thriller film ‘Mirzapur: The Movie,’ portraying the character of Birju Lohar. He believes that an actor cannot simply classify a character as good or bad.
Discussing Birju, Malik stated, “He is a character with many flaws who often makes poor decisions. This complexity makes playing him intriguing. As actors, we cannot just define a character as good or bad. We must understand their mindset, circumstances, and the reasons behind their decisions. Even if we disagree with a character’s actions, we need to find the motivations that make them believable.”
Malik explained the true challenge of embodying Birju. “The real test was to portray this character honestly without passing judgment. I believe audiences connect more with characters that feel like real people, complete with their flaws and complexities. With Birju, I aimed to understand the person behind his actions and bring that truth to the screen.”
In the film, Malik’s Birju is a loyal associate of the drug lord Babban Yadav from Jaisalmer. He harbors a long-standing grudge against Kaleen Bhaiya and a deep affection for Beena Bhabi, played by Rasika Dugal.
The intricate relationship between Beena Tripathi and Birju serves as a significant turning point in the narrative. Released on September 4, this blockbuster has captured audience attention, with Malik standing out among a stellar cast that includes Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, and Divyendu.
