Rome, May 20: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni upon his arrival in Italy. The two leaders discussed various issues over dinner and later toured the iconic Colosseum. PM Modi shared photos from the meeting on social media.
On Wednesday morning, Modi tweeted, “After landing in Rome, I had the opportunity to meet Prime Minister Meloni for dinner, followed by a visit to the famous Colosseum. We exchanged views on several topics.”
He added, “I eagerly await our discussions today, where we will continue to strengthen the friendship between India and Italy.”
Earlier, Prime Minister Meloni welcomed PM Modi to Rome with a post featuring a photo of the two leaders, saying, “Welcome to Rome, my friend.”
Upon his arrival, Modi also met with Indian citizens. He is in Italy as part of a five-nation tour, where discussions are expected to focus on trade, defense, clean energy, strategic cooperation, and technological partnerships between the two countries.
On Wednesday, Modi’s meeting with Giorgia Meloni will take place at the historic Villa Doria Pamphili. Following this, both leaders will issue a joint declaration to further strengthen the India-Italy strategic partnership.
Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal posted on social media, stating, “A new chapter is being added to the India-Italy strategic partnership. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has arrived in Rome for an official visit, warmly welcomed at the airport by Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani.”
He further noted, “India and Italy have long-standing, robust relationships across various sectors. This visit will give new momentum to our partnership.”
