Manoj Tiwari Calls Fuel Tax Cut a Gift for Ram Navami

Patna, March 27: Manoj Tiwari, a Member of Parliament from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), praised the central government’s decision to reduce excise duty on petrol and diesel, calling it a gift to the nation on Ram Navami.

Tiwari stated that this is the most significant news of the day, emphasizing that the country has received a gift on Ram Navami.

Speaking to reporters, he expressed concerns that fuel prices could rise by 10 to 12 rupees per liter due to conflicts in the Gulf region. However, he commended the Indian government for shouldering the burden entirely.

He expressed confidence that there would be no further increase in fuel prices across the country. He noted that there would be no need to raise diesel and petrol prices anywhere, thanks to the decision made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government.

Tiwari added that if anyone attempts to raise diesel or petrol prices, they should be reminded that the excise duty has been cut by 10 rupees per liter. He described this as the Modi government’s responsibility towards its citizens.

Earlier in the day, the central government announced a reduction of 10 rupees per liter in excise duty on petrol and diesel, lowering the excise duty on petrol to 3 rupees per liter and eliminating it for diesel.

This reduction comes amid fears of rising prices due to a global energy crisis stemming from conflicts involving the U.S., Israel, and Iran, which have led to blockades in the Hormuz Strait.

However, the government clarified that there would be no change in retail prices for petrol and diesel, and the excise duty cut would not directly translate into lower prices at fuel pumps.

The Ministry of Petroleum stated that instead, this would directly reduce the losses incurred by public sector oil marketing companies (OMCs) such as Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum Corporation, and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation.
