Manipurs Chief Minister discusses security concerns with opposition leaders following the murder of three civilians.

Imphal, October 20 (Daily Kiran) : In Imphal, Manipur’s Chief Minister, N. Biren Singh, met with leaders from the opposition India Bloc on Tuesday. This meeting included former Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh, who currently heads the state Congress. The discussions were prompted by the recent murders of three civilians in Kangpokpi district, attributed to suspected terrorists.
The delegation expressed deep concern over these killings and urged the Chief Minister to convene an all-party meeting. They aimed to address the deteriorating security situation and explore ways to restore peace in the troubled state.
In a social media post, Singh noted that the meeting aimed to review the overall security landscape following the “tragic murders of three innocent civilians” by armed assailants. He reassured attendees that their concerns would be addressed and emphasized the need for collective efforts to maintain peace and normalcy in the region.
After the meeting, Ibobi Singh raised questions about the moral authority of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government amid ongoing violence and civilian deaths. He criticized the government for its failure to ensure law and order, stating that it is the government’s fundamental duty to protect its citizens.
He highlighted the ongoing violence between the Naga, Kuki, and Meitei communities, questioning how much longer such turmoil could be tolerated. Singh also criticized the government’s reluctance to call an all-party meeting, asserting that the Congress and other India Bloc members cannot remain silent in the face of the state’s crisis.
Furthermore, he indicated that the opposition is ready to appeal to the central government for assistance if the situation escalates. He asserted that if the central government is committed to resolving the crisis, controlling violence and restricting armed groups should be achievable within days.
Singh also accused the central government of being a passive observer amid the ongoing bloodshed. The recent killings occurred on Monday near Nongsham in the eastern district of Imphal, where suspected terrorists targeted three wood collectors.
