Man Arrested with Suspicious Golden Powder at Jama Masjid Metro Station

A man was apprehended at Jama Masjid Metro Station with 155 grams of a suspicious golden powder, later found not to be a narcotic.

New Delhi, October 19 (Daily Kiran) : Authorities at the Jama Masjid Metro Station in New Delhi apprehended a man on October 17 while he was carrying approximately 155 grams of a substance resembling golden powder. The powder was concealed within an undergarment in his bag.

Upon investigation by the Narcotics Department, it was determined that the substance was not a narcotic or psychoactive drug. However, the individual, identified as Mohammad Shoaib from Khalaapar in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, could not provide any documentation proving ownership of the substance or a valid reason for possessing it. Consequently, legal action was initiated against him under the Delhi Police Act.

Shoaib, who also claimed an address in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, stated he had arrived in Delhi on October 16 and was staying at a hotel in the Jama Masjid area. On the day of his arrest, he was en route to Lajpat Nagar when security personnel from the CISF intercepted him during a routine baggage check.

Initially, there were suspicions that the substance could be an illicit drug, prompting the investigation by the Narcotics Department. However, those concerns were unfounded. The Customs Department was also informed about the incident but declined to take action, stating it did not fall under their jurisdiction.

During preliminary questioning, Shoaib explained that he lived in Malaysia and was involved in the textile industry. He mentioned that his wife and two children are Malaysian citizens. The CISF personnel noted that Shoaib attempted to flee when a suspicious object was detected during the X-ray baggage screening. They pursued him and managed to apprehend him before he could exit the station.

Tensions regarding the incident have prompted further scrutiny, with the Supreme Court Metro Police Station commencing proceedings against Shoaib for his inability to justify the possession of the substance.
