Dattapukur, October 31 (Daily Kiran) : A 40-year-old man has been arrested in Dattapukur, West Bengal, for allegedly sexually assaulting a three-and-a-half-year-old girl. The suspect, identified as Arjun Sardar, reportedly took the child to the roof of a nearby house during a visit to a relative’s home.
The incident occurred on Thursday, and it was discovered the following day, leading to heightened tensions in the area. According to police, the victim’s family has been residing in a rented house in Subhasnagar under the jurisdiction of the Nilganj police station for the past three months.
Local residents attempted to file a complaint at the Nilganj police station but reported that their request was initially denied. Subsequently, a case was registered against the accused under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012, and an investigation was launched. The police arrested Sardar on Friday night.
During interrogation, the accused confessed to the crime. He was presented in the Barasat court on Saturday, where police requested his custody for further investigation. The victim was taken to Barasat Medical College and Hospital for a physical examination.
Family members and local residents expressed frustration over the lengthy wait at the hospital, as only one female doctor was available at the time and was occupied with other patients. This led to protests outside the hospital due to the delays in the medical examination.
The situation was eventually brought under control. The victim’s family is demanding severe punishment for the accused.
