Jammu, February 25: In a significant counter-terrorism operation, the Indian Army’s White Knight Corps and the Jammu and Kashmir Police’s Special Operations Group (SOG) successfully thwarted a major terrorist plot in the Gani forest area of Poonch district. This operation, named ‘Operation Gani,’ was conducted based on joint intelligence inputs, as reported on the White Knight Corps’ social media handle.
Acting on the intelligence received, security forces launched an extensive search operation. With coordination and precision, they uncovered a substantial cache of weapons and explosives hidden beneath a natural cave.
The recovered items included a large improvised explosive device (IED) weighing 4.5 kilograms, a smaller IED of 800 grams, two Chinese grenades, a 9mm pistol, two 9mm cartridges, and twenty-two 7.62mm cartridges.
The bomb disposal squad safely neutralized the IEDs and grenades on-site, ensuring the safety of local civilians and security personnel.
This operation was based on collaborative intelligence inputs from various sources, showcasing the remarkable teamwork and accuracy of the security forces in eliminating hidden terrorist resources.
The police have registered a case at the Mendhar police station regarding this incident. The Jammu and Kashmir Police and security forces are actively conducting anti-terrorism operations in the interior areas, while the Army and Border Security Force (BSF) secure the Line of Control (LoC) and international borders.
Jammu and Kashmir features a 740-kilometer-long LoC and a 240-kilometer-long international border. The LoC runs through the Kupwara, Bandipora, and Baramulla districts in the valley, as well as Poonch, Rajouri, and partially Jammu district in the Jammu region. The international border is located in the Samba, Kathua, and Jammu districts of the Jammu division.
The Army and BSF are deployed to prevent infiltration, drug trafficking, and drone activities from the Pakistani side of the border.
Such operations help curb terrorist activities in border areas. The success of the White Knight Corps and SOG in Poonch has strengthened peace and security in the region. The search operation is ongoing to eliminate any potential threats preemptively.
