New Delhi, April 3: The Crime Branch of Delhi Police has successfully dismantled a significant inter-state drug trafficking network, seizing 1.436 kilograms of high-quality cannabis (Malana Cream) and arresting two suspects.
This operation was part of the ‘Nasha Mukt Delhi’ campaign, showcasing the Crime Branch’s effective efforts. The seized cannabis is valued at approximately 6 million rupees in the international market. It was reportedly sourced from Malana village in Kullu district, Himachal Pradesh, and was intended for delivery in Mumbai.
On March 19, 2026, police received a tip-off about Om Chand, also known as Omu, a resident of Himachal Pradesh, supplying cannabis in Delhi. Acting on this information, a team led by Inspector Robin Tyagi and under the close supervision of ACP Sanjay Kumar Nagpal initiated a search for the suspect. They first set up surveillance at GT Karnal Bypass and ISBT Kashmiri Gate, but the suspect managed to evade capture.
The police maintained vigilance and, in a dramatic turn of events, apprehended Om Chand and his accomplice Pyare Singh just moments before the Maharashtra Sampark Kranti Express departed from Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station.
During the operation, a total of 1.436 kilograms of cannabis was recovered. Investigations revealed that the cannabis was obtained from Nolu Ram in Malana village. Police raided Nolu Ram’s residence but were unable to arrest him as he had fled.
Interrogations of the suspects revealed a high demand for cannabis in Mumbai, particularly for parties and events. They disclosed that they were tasked with delivering the narcotic to clients in Mumbai. The police are now conducting further investigations to uncover the remaining elements of this network and to apprehend other individuals involved.
Om Chand is married and has completed his education up to the 12th grade. He operates a private taxi service in Himachal Pradesh. Pyare Singh, also educated up to the 12th grade, is Omu’s cousin, and both hail from the same village.
This operation has dealt a significant blow to inter-state drug trafficking in Delhi, demonstrating that prompt action, vigilance, and strategic planning can effectively apprehend criminals. With the seized cannabis and the arrested suspects, police are now conducting an in-depth study of the entire network to ensure the capture of other members soon.
A case has been registered under sections 20/29 of the NDPS Act in the Crime Branch. This action is considered crucial for ensuring safety for consumers and society at large.
