Major Administrative Reshuffle in Bihar: Robert Chongthu Appointed as Minority Welfare Secretary

Patna, April 26: The Bihar government’s General Administration Department has executed a significant administrative reshuffle. This change involves several senior IAS officers being reassigned to new positions, marking a crucial shift in the state’s administrative framework.

One of the most notable changes is the transfer of Robert L. Chongthu (IAS 1997 batch) from the position of Principal Secretary to the Governor to Principal Secretary of the Minority Welfare Department.

Gopal Meena (IAS 2007 batch) has been moved from the Revenue and Land Reforms Department to serve as the Secretary to the Governor. He has also been given additional responsibilities as the Commissioner of Inquiry (GAD).

Mohammad Sohel (IAS 2007 batch) has been reassigned from the Minority Welfare Department to become the Secretary of the General Administration Department, retaining the additional charge of Commissioner of Inquiry, GAD.

Shailendra Kumar (IAS 2013 batch) has been transferred from the Agriculture Department and appointed as the District Magistrate (DM) and District Collector of Lakhisarai.

This reshuffle is effective immediately, as per the Bihar government’s notification, and all officers will assume their new roles until further notice.

According to administrative sources, these changes aim to enhance the efficiency of the Governor’s Secretariat, the Minority Welfare Department, General Administration, and district-level administration. New responsibilities have been specifically assigned to the Minority Welfare and General Administration Departments. Shailendra Kumar’s appointment in Lakhisarai is seen as a move to strengthen local governance.

In recent months, Bihar has witnessed several administrative changes. This reshuffle is part of that trend, as the government believes that periodic adjustments keep the administrative machinery active and accountable.
