Maharashtras NCP Joins Protest March Against Election Commission in Mumbai

Mumbai, October 1 (Daily Kiran) : The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), led by Sharad Pawar, will participate in a protest march organized by the Thackeray family against the Election Commission of India (ECI) on October 4 in Mumbai.

Shashikant Shinde, the state party president, announced that a large number of party officials, activists, and supporters are expected to join the march. The protest aims to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. It will commence from the Richardson and Cruddas Company premises in Byculla and proceed to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation headquarters.

Following a meeting of the Maha Vikas Aghadi, Uddhav Thackeray and Sharad Pawar engaged in extensive discussions regarding the march. Pawar has urged all party workers to participate vigorously. Shinde emphasized that while officials and activists will take to the streets for the public interest, they will not carry party flags during the demonstration.

Additionally, on October 5, the party plans to submit memorandums across Maharashtra to draw attention to the severe drought conditions affecting the state. An emergency meeting has been convened for key officials from Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, and Thane to finalize preparations for the march.

Shinde expressed concern over the increasing difficulty of protesting democratically in the state and country. He noted that whenever voices are raised against anti-people policies, government machinery is used for repressive actions, leading to the defamation of individuals. He affirmed that the party will participate in all upcoming protests and that officials and activists will join the October 4 march without party flags.

He also highlighted that the government has yet to fulfill its promises regarding Maratha reservations. Despite Manoj Jarange Patil giving the government a three-month deadline, actions were taken against him last month to exert pressure. Shinde warned that such tactics pose a threat to democracy.

Earlier, Raj Thackeray, during a press conference with Uddhav Thackeray, raised concerns about electoral fraud and manipulation of electronic voting machines. He stated that these issues have been a persistent concern for years. The march is a response to the humiliation of voters and violations of electoral fairness. Thackeray indicated that he would directly address these issues from the stage on October 4.
