Maharashtra Government Takes Action Amidst MPSC Student Protests

Maharashtras government responds to MPSC student protests by removing the secretary and considering changes to leadership roles.

Mumbai, October 5 (Daily Kiran) : The Maharashtra government has adopted a serious stance in response to ongoing student protests demanding transparency in the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) examinations. Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde stated that the government views the situation positively and is committed to safeguarding the future of the students.

In a conversation with reporters, Shinde mentioned, “Our legislators and MPs have personally met with the protesting students and accepted their memorandum. Some students from Omraje’s constituency also approached them. This is a student-led movement, and the government is taking it seriously.”

He emphasized the need for complete transparency in the examination process, stating that merit should be the sole criterion for evaluation. Any form of malpractice or corruption will not be tolerated.

“I firmly believe that there must be full transparency. The examination is about the students’ future. Merit is essential, and there should be no misconduct. No one has the right to jeopardize the lives of students,” Shinde asserted.

In light of the protests, the government has taken immediate action by removing the MPSC secretary, Harpalkar, from his position.

Shinde remarked, “The secretary has been sidelined immediately. The government has taken the students’ movement seriously. If any mistakes have occurred, they must be rectified; this is the government’s role.”

Additionally, the government is considering the students’ demand to remove the MPSC chairman. The Deputy Chief Minister noted that the Chief Minister has taken the students’ concerns seriously and discussions with the Governor are ongoing regarding this matter.

He stated, “Regarding the demand for the chairman’s removal, the Chief Minister is also taking it seriously. Discussions with the Governor have begun. Given that this is a constitutional position, the Chief Minister is committed to following the appropriate process, and a proper decision will be made.”

The government’s clear stance is to ensure that transparency and merit are prioritized throughout the process, and any errors will be addressed accordingly.
