Indore, March 17: The judges of the Madhya Pradesh High Court’s Indore bench will personally visit the controversial Bhojshala site ahead of the next hearing. The divided bench clarified its intention to conduct a ‘personal inspection’ of the disputed location before the upcoming session.
In their order, the court explicitly stated that the bench will visit the site before the next hearing date, and no other individuals will be allowed to accompany the judges during this inspection.
Justices Vijay Shukla and Alok Awasthi made these remarks while determining the further proceedings in the case. The judges noted that the Supreme Court has already issued clear directives for the swift resolution of the matter.
Citing the Supreme Court’s orders, the bench emphasized that the hearing and decision on the case should occur as soon as possible. The next hearing is scheduled for April 2.
During the proceedings on Monday, the bench heard detailed suggestions and objections presented by both petitioners and respondents regarding the comprehensive report prepared by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).
It was also noted that five related petitions are being heard together in this batch. The court recalled its previous order from February 23, directing all parties to submit their objections, opinions, suggestions, and recommendations regarding the ASI survey report within two weeks.
The ASI has planned a detailed scientific survey and investigation of the entire complex over a period of 100 days, starting from March 22, 2024.
The bench further recorded that the Supreme Court had instructed the Indore bench to conduct hearings within three weeks from January 22. During prior proceedings, the court found that the sealed survey report had already been opened, and copies had been provided to all parties, eliminating the need to reopen the documents before the court.
This development marks a significant step in a decades-old dispute, and the court is expected to examine the ASI’s ground investigation report after hearing the arguments from both sides. The judges’ personal visit is anticipated to provide further clarity before the next proceedings.
