New Delhi, August 13: The Parliament’s monsoon session has been overshadowed by disruptions. On Thursday, the Lok Sabha proceedings were adjourned indefinitely, marking the end of the session.
The session commenced at 11 AM with the national anthem ‘Vande Mataram’ being played in full. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh were present in the house during the anthem. Following this, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla announced the indefinite adjournment of the proceedings.
Notably, Speaker Om Birla did not deliver the traditional closing speech summarizing the Lok Sabha’s productivity and activities during this session.
Throughout the session, significant uproar was caused by allegations of embezzlement related to donations for the Ram Temple and the NEET paper leak issue. The opposition protested against police actions taken against students demonstrating against the NEET paper leak. They also raised concerns about the absence of Home Minister Amit Shah in the house and demanded a government response regarding police actions against the students.
Despite the continuous disruptions from the opposition, the government successfully passed several important bills. Some of these bills were approved without debate due to the absence of opposition members during discussions.
Key bills passed by the Lok Sabha during the monsoon session included the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill, the Kerala (Name Change) Bill officially renaming the state to ‘Keralam’, the Supreme Court (Number of Judges) Amendment Bill, and the Taxation and Other Laws (Amendment) Bill.
Additionally, on Wednesday, the Lok Sabha passed a motion to send the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill (FCRA), 2026 to the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) by a voice vote.
