Local Outrage in Afghanistans Khost Over Alleged Pakistani Attacks on Civilian Areas

Kabul, April 3: Local residents in Afghanistan’s Khost province are expressing significant anger over alleged attacks by Pakistani soldiers targeting civilian areas in the Tani district. The assaults, which occurred late Thursday night, have created an atmosphere of fear in the region.

According to sources, ongoing violence has prompted many locals to flee their homes in search of safety. Reports of casualties have emerged, but there has been no official confirmation of deaths or injuries so far.

Media reports indicate that clashes have also been reported in Khost’s Gurbuz district. Tensions between the two countries have escalated in recent months due to airstrikes conducted by Pakistan, leading to deteriorating conditions in border areas.

This violence comes at a time when talks between Pakistani and Taliban officials are ongoing in China, aimed at reducing tensions and reaching a potential ceasefire agreement. However, the persistent ground conflict raises doubts about the success of these diplomatic efforts.

Meanwhile, participants at the ‘Pakistan-Afghanistan Peace Jirga’ held in Peshawar have urged both governments to halt the clashes along the border and resolve disputes through dialogue.

The jirga was organized by the think tanks ‘Aspire Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’ and ‘National Reform Movement (Qoumi Islahi Tehreek)’, with participation from political and religious leaders, the business community, and media representatives.

The participants issued a joint statement demanding an immediate ceasefire and concrete steps to de-escalate tensions. They emphasized that both countries share a common religious, cultural heritage, and social values, asserting that war is not a solution to any problem.

The statement also called for both nations to ensure that their territories are not used for any activities against each other and to strictly enforce this agreement. Furthermore, mutual respect and understanding were highlighted as the greatest guarantees for lasting peace.
