North Korea’s Kim Yo Jong has announced that the country will resume propaganda broadcasts across the border with South Korea within days, reviving a psychological warfare tactic amid rising tensions. This declaration came after a visit to border fortifications where North Korean military personnel are reportedly bolstering defenses.

During her inspection, Kim stated, “Our tactical hunting teams are taking new positions, and within October, the loudspeakers for psychological warfare against the ROK will be in operation along the whole border.” This announcement is part of North Korea’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its military posture along the heavily fortified border.

The backdrop to Kim’s statement involves recent incidents of violence, including land mine explosions attributed to North Korea, which injured South Korean soldiers. In response, South Korea has warned it will punish further provocations by Pyongyang, emphasizing a commitment to national security.

North Korean military leaders, including Marshal Pak Jong Chon, have inspected border fortifications and discussed strengthening defenses against perceived threats from the South. Pak characterized South Korea’s allegations of border breaches by the North as unfounded, claiming that North Korean forces are well aware of their territorial limits.

The North has been intensifying border construction efforts, adding mines, barbed wire, and surveillance systems to fortify its defenses further. This is part of a broader series of military upgrades initiated since rising tensions began in April 2024. Kim Yo Jong referred to the ongoing fortification work as a “sacred and great undertaking” that aligns with her brother’s directive to make the border “eternally impregnable.”

In anticipation of possible South Korean military actions, Kim Yo Jong ordered her troops to be ready for a potential counterattack if their safety is compromised. She issued a stark warning that North Korean forces would show no mercy in response to provocation.

The situation along the border remains precarious, with both sides on high alert following reports of increased military activity. South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman, Jin Yong-Sung, labeled the threats from the North as “intolerable,” urging a stringent response to any provocations.

As North Korea resumes its propaganda efforts, the potential for conflict appears heightened, with both nations reinforcing their military readiness amid a longstanding stalemate in diplomatic communications.
