Leylah Fernandez and Diana Schneider Set for Final Showdown at Pan Pacific Open

Leylah Fernandez and Diana Schneider will clash in the Pan Pacific Open final after their semifinal victories in Tokyo.

Tokyo, October 31 (Daily Kiran) : Leylah Fernandez of Canada has advanced to the final of the Pan Pacific Open after defeating Kamila Rakhimova in the semifinals. The match took place in Tokyo, where Fernandez will face Diana Schneider, who triumphed over Mia Pohanova to secure her spot in the title match.

In a tightly contested semifinal, Fernandez overcame a break in both sets to win 7-5, 6-3 in one hour and 54 minutes. After losing her serve in the third game, she found herself trailing 1-3 in the first set. However, she broke back in the sixth game, leveling the score at 3-3. Both players held their serves until Fernandez seized a crucial break in the 12th game, clinching the first set in 59 minutes.

The second set started with Fernandez losing her serve again. Yet, she managed to break Rakhimova in the fourth game, leveling the score at 2-2. Fernandez then gained a 5-3 lead before finishing the set with a hold, concluding the match in 49 minutes.

This marks Fernandez’s third appearance in a WTA final this year. She previously won the Singapore Open in September by defeating Tahlia Gibson but lost to Elena Rybakina in the finals of the Ningbo Open last week.

Following her victory, Fernandez remarked, “It was a tough match. She beat me three weeks ago, and she played a great match then as well.” She expressed her gratitude for the support from the crowd, stating, “I’m just happy I stayed calm for most of the match and used the energy from the crowd to help me.”

In the other semifinal, Diana Schneider defeated wild card player Pohanova in a challenging match lasting one hour and 46 minutes, winning 6-4, 7-6 (7). Schneider had to save a set point in the second set to secure her place in the final.

The Russian player lost her serve in the third game of the first set but regained it in the eighth game, ultimately winning the set 6-4. In the tiebreak of the second set, she also saved a set point, winning it 9-7 to advance.

After her victory, Schneider commented, “Reaching the final is not easy. She is definitely a special talent. You know she is 18 years old, so she certainly has a bright future ahead. I’m very happy to reach my first final of the season.”
