KTM RC 160: Key Features to Know Before You Buy

The KTM RC 160, priced at ₹1.85 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), emerges as a strong contender in the entry-level sportbike segment, challenging rivals like the Yamaha R15. With a fresh 164.2 cc engine, track-focused design, and rider-friendly features, it aims to deliver a thrilling yet accessible riding experience.

Track-Inspired Design in a Compact Form

The RC 160 carries forward KTM’s signature aggressive styling with a fully-faired body and sharp front fascia. Its low clip-on handlebars and sporty riding posture stay true to the brand’s racing DNA, making it appealing to those who want a bike that looks and feels ready for the track right from the showroom.

Performance Powered by a New 164.2 cc Engine

At its core, the motorcycle features a newly developed 164.2 cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine, also seen in the 160 Duke. This powertrain produces 18.74 bhp at 9,500 rpm and 15.5 Nm of torque at 7,500 rpm, paired with a 6-speed gearbox. The engine is designed to be lively and responsive, revving up to 10,200 rpm, while delivering a top speed of 118 kmph. Its performance balance ensures it remains approachable for new riders.

Rider-Friendly Clutch and Advanced Chassis Setup

The RC 160 comes equipped with an assist and slipper clutch, which reduces clutch lever effort and prevents rear wheel hop during sharp downshifts. This feature enhances rider confidence and comfort, especially during spirited riding or on the track. The motorcycle’s chassis consists of a sturdy trellis frame supported by 37 mm upside-down front forks and a rear monoshock. Braking duties are handled by a 320 mm front disc and a 230 mm rear disc with dual-channel ABS. Additionally, Supermoto ABS allows disabling the rear ABS for more aggressive cornering control.

Practical Features for Everyday Riding

Despite its sporty nature, the KTM RC 160 includes practical elements such as full LED lighting, an LCD instrument cluster, and navigation support on the TA variant. The 13.75-litre fuel tank offers a good range, making the bike suitable for daily commuting as well as weekend rides.

Overall, the KTM RC 160 offers a compelling package for riders looking to step into the performance motorcycle segment with a bike that combines style, technology, and usability.
