
Raipur, December 3 – Virat Kohli and Ruturaj Gaikwad created history during the second ODI match against South Africa on Wednesday. The duo forged a partnership of 195 runs for the third wicket, which is India’s highest partnership for any wicket against South Africa in ODI format.
The Kohli-Gaikwad pair broke the record previously held by Sachin Tendulkar and Dinesh Karthik, who had scored 194 runs for the second wicket against South Africa in Gwalior on February 24, 2010.
In this match being played in Raipur, Virat Kohli faced 93 balls and scored 102 runs with 2 sixes and 7 fours. This was his 53rd century in ODI career. Meanwhile, Ruturaj Gaikwad got out after scoring 105 runs off 83 balls with the help of 2 sixes and 12 fours.
Ruturaj Gaikwad completed his century in 77 balls, which became the second-fastest ODI century by any Indian batsman against South Africa. Yusuf Pathan tops this list, having scored a century in just 68 balls against South Africa during an ODI match in Centurion in 2011.
South Africa won the toss at Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium and decided to bowl first.
India scored 358 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in the stipulated 50 overs. Virat Kohli played an innings of 102 runs off 93 balls, while Ruturaj Gaikwad scored 105 runs off 83 balls. Both players shared a partnership of 195 runs off 156 balls for the third wicket.
Apart from them, captain KL Rahul remained unbeaten on 66 runs off 43 balls, while Ravindra Jadeja played an unbeaten innings of 24 runs off 27 balls. From South Africa’s side, Marke Jansen claimed the maximum of 2 wickets.
