Kashmiri Pandit Voices Concerns Over Rising Intimidation in Kashmir

Jammu, September 7 (Daily Kiran) : Sunil Pandit, a representative of the Kashmiri Pandit community, has voiced serious concerns regarding the alleged intimidation of Kashmiri Pandits and non-locals in the region. He has directed his criticisms at Dr. Farooq Abdullah and the National Conference, accusing them of attempting to recreate the hostile atmosphere reminiscent of the 1990s.

Pandit claims that individuals from various parts of the country who have recently settled in Kashmir are also facing threats. He stated that such an environment is unacceptable. He recounted his own experience, explaining that his agricultural land had been entrusted to a collaborator for farming. However, he now feels that an outsider is trying to assert control over the land and intimidate him.

Despite informing the police about these incidents, Pandit alleges that he has not received the necessary support. He views this situation as part of a broader conspiracy to prevent Kashmiri Pandits and non-locals from settling in Kashmir.

In related news, Professor Umesh Rai, Vice-Chancellor of Jammu University, provided updates on the university’s expansion and building security plans. He announced that the university will celebrate its 58th foundation day on September 8. Rai emphasized that the institution is making continuous progress and aims to expand further.

He revealed that approximately 18 acres of land, previously under military control, will soon be added to the university’s campus, thanks to efforts from the university and support from the Defense Minister.

Rai also mentioned the need for heightened vigilance regarding building safety, especially following a recent incident of a building collapse in Delhi. He assured that thorough inspections and security checks will be conducted on university buildings to identify any potential risks. Additionally, he noted that renovations for the previously dilapidated girls’ hostel have commenced, highlighting the administration’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure safety and quality.
