Bengaluru, March 3: The Karnataka BJP targeted Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, on Tuesday for criticizing India’s stance in the US-Israel-Iran conflict.
Gandhi had stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should clearly indicate whether he supports the assassination of a country’s leader and condemn the attacks on Iran and other nations in West Asia. He also mentioned that India’s current silence is making it vulnerable on the global stage.
R. Ashok, the Leader of the Opposition in the Karnataka Assembly, asserted that before preaching about morality and global order, Gandhi should clarify whether he supports the allegedly threatening political slogans raised by Congress workers.
Ashok accused Gandhi of remaining silent on matters related to “political threats,” arguing that silence implies complicity. He noted that it is easy to preach restraint to world leaders, but maintaining discipline within one’s own party is challenging.
He questioned whether Gandhi truly believes that “violence begets violence,” and if he would condemn what he has labeled as part of political threats.
Ashok further emphasized that India’s foreign policy is based on national interests, strategic depth, and well-considered diplomacy, rather than statements made for social media comments or headlines.
He stated that governments should act responsibly in sensitive situations and avoid public statements that could jeopardize the country’s interests or the safety of Indians abroad.
Highlighting the significant presence of the Indian diaspora in West Asia, Ashok stressed the need for maturity and responsibility over political rhetoric to ensure their safety.
He concluded by stating that if Gandhi wants India to present a clear stance, he must first send a clear message within his party’s ranks.
