Bengaluru, August 7: The Karnataka BJP celebrated National Handloom Day at its state headquarters, Jagannath Bhavan, on Friday. During the event, party leaders honored professional weavers and emphasized the initiatives of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s central government aimed at empowering the weaving community.
Addressing the gathering, BJP state president and MLA B.Y. Vijayendra stated that the central government has strengthened the economic status of weavers through various welfare schemes. He assured that if the BJP returns to power in Karnataka, it will launch additional programs for the handloom sector.
While speaking at the event, Vijayendra expressed confidence that despite various claims, the Congress government will not regain power in Karnataka. He firmly believed that the next government in the state will be led by the BJP.
Vijayendra asserted that the BJP will definitely return to power. “Our government will create numerous schemes for the welfare of weavers and ensure better support for the handloom sector,” he stated.
He highlighted that Prime Minister Modi’s government has initiated several measures to strengthen the handloom and textile sector by promoting skill development, market expansion, and job creation.
Vijayendra mentioned the PM MITRA parks scheme as one of the significant initiatives for the textile industry. He emphasized that handloom weaving is not just a profession but an art that needs preservation and promotion. According to him, the declaration of National Handloom Day by the central government recognizes the contributions of weavers and continuously works to preserve traditional skills.
Recalling the tenure of former Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa’s BJP government in Karnataka, Vijayendra noted that several steps were taken for the welfare of the weaving community. He accused the current Congress government of failing to provide essential support to handloom workers.
Reflecting on his visits to northern Karnataka, Vijayendra shared that he has witnessed the struggles of weaving families firsthand. He recalled how Yediyurappa often referred to farmers and weavers as the “two eyes” of society and initiated welfare programs for both communities.
