Kamal Nath Questions MP Governments Investment Claims

Bhopal, August 17: Senior Congress leader and former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Kamal Nath, raised concerns on Monday regarding the state government’s investment claims. He highlighted a significant gap between the proposed investment and the actual foreign direct investment (FDI) equity inflow recorded during 2025-26.

Nath stated that the government had claimed that Madhya Pradesh received investment proposals exceeding ₹30 lakh crore during the fiscal year 2025-26. However, citing data from the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), he noted that the state only attracted ₹708.06 crore in FDI equity inflow during the same period.

He questioned how much of the proposed investment would actually translate into real investment on the ground. “Is it possible for the state to receive investment proposals worth ₹30 lakh crore and yet not achieve even ₹1,000 crore in actual investment?” he asked.

The senior Congress leader further asserted that Madhya Pradesh lagged behind its neighboring states, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, in terms of investment inflow. During 2025-26, Madhya Pradesh accounted for only 0.14 percent of the total investments in the country. He criticized the BJP government for focusing on events and publicity rather than creating an environment conducive to attracting real investments.

Nath emphasized that investment proposals cannot be considered a measure of economic activity unless they lead to projects, capital flow, and job creation. He stated, “I have always said that investment comes with trust. It does not come on its own; it needs to be attracted.”

His remarks come amid ongoing efforts by the state government to attract investments and position Madhya Pradesh as a favorable destination for investors.
