Justin Langer Expects Rishabh Pant to Make a Strong Comeback in IPL 2026

New Delhi, March 14: Justin Langer, head coach of the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), believes that captain Rishabh Pant will make a strong comeback in the 19th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The IPL 2026 is set to kick off on March 28, with Lucknow starting their campaign against Delhi Capitals on April 1. Langer stated that champions like Pant do not stay in a tough phase for long.

Expectations are high for Rishabh Pant to deliver an impressive performance this season. Currently struggling with form, Pant has been training rigorously. Recently, he was seen practicing under the supervision of former Indian player Yuvraj Singh at a small camp in Mumbai. Langer noted that Pant appears to be in good rhythm ahead of the season.

In an interview with ESPN Cricinfo, Justin Langer said, “He is fully prepared to perform strongly. He is currently training. We have a camp going on, so I will meet him in a few days. He is completely pumped up, and as I mentioned, champions like him do not stay down for long. Last year, Pant showcased his incredible talent in the final matches of the IPL. That’s why we expect a powerful performance from him this season as well.”

It is worth mentioning that Lucknow Super Giants acquired Rishabh Pant for a record bid of 27 crores in the IPL 2025 auction, making him the most expensive player in IPL history. In January, just before the ODI series against New Zealand, Pant suffered a rib strain while batting, and since then, he has not played any matches.

Rishabh Pant’s performance in IPL 2025 was disappointing, as he managed only 269 runs at a modest strike rate of 133 across 14 matches. This was his worst performance since debuting in the tournament in 2016. However, he did shine in the last match of the previous season, scoring an unbeaten 118 runs against RCB. Despite Pant’s efforts, Lucknow’s overall performance under his captaincy did not meet expectations, finishing the tournament in seventh place.
