JD(U) Criticizes SPs Promise of Azam Khan as Home Minister

Patna, August 13: The JD(U) has sharply responded to the statement made by SP MLA Shivpal Singh Yadav, who claimed that if the SP government comes to power in Uttar Pradesh, Azam Khan would be appointed as the Home Minister. JD(U) leader Shyam Rajak questioned the logic behind making promises about something that is unlikely to happen.

Rajak stated, “This is all about increasing TRP. Shivpal Yadav is trying to mislead people and divert attention from real issues, focusing instead on how to capture votes with attractive promises. Discussing who will be the Home Minister or not is akin to tarnishing oneself.”

He emphasized that the public will not be misled by such statements. The real issues at hand are inflation, unemployment, and development, not who will hold ministerial positions.

Regarding the FCRA bill being sent to the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC), JD(U) leaders viewed this as a positive step. Rajak remarked, “When a bill goes to the JPC, it undergoes thorough discussion and deliberation from all sides before a decision is made. The bill will then return to Parliament for further discussion and will be passed based on majority support. It’s a good development that it has gone to the JPC for in-depth study, involving members from all parties.”

JD(U) spokesperson Rajiv Ranjan Prasad added that this decision serves as a lesson for the opposition. He noted that the support from church bodies for the JPC’s formation indicates that the Parliament’s decision does not upset any religion or its followers.

He stated, “The act created to ensure the proper use of foreign funds has been introduced in Parliament and sent to the JPC. It is now the JPC’s responsibility to bring it to a logical conclusion.”

On the allegations against former judge Yashwant Verma, Prasad remarked on the Indian judiciary’s proud tradition. He acknowledged that sometimes, issues arise against certain judges, which serves as a test for the judiciary. The allegations against Verma appear to be substantiated. It is now up to Parliament to decide whether to proceed with impeachment or other actions. Despite Verma’s resignation, this should not be considered sufficient.

Prasad concluded, “If there are allegations of irregularities, sending a strong message is essential to prevent such incidents in the future and to maintain the integrity of the judiciary.”
