Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Vows to End Jungle Raj Following Tragic Incident

Srinagar, April 14: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah stated on Tuesday that he will not allow ‘jungle raj’ in the union territory. His comments came in response to the tragic death of an individual who jumped into a stream while being chased by cow vigilantes in Ramban district on Sunday.

Speaking to the media in Bijbehara, Anantnag district, Abdullah emphasized that he will not permit any disruption of peace in the region. He aims to initiate a new phase in Jammu and Kashmir, fostering a peaceful environment and stabilizing the situation.

“There are individuals who do not favor peace and instead desire communal unrest and conflict, as we have witnessed. I want to assure you that as long as my government is in power, such incidents will never occur in Jammu and Kashmir,” he asserted.

The Chief Minister urged Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to ensure strict action against those involved in the Ramban death case and anyone attempting to disturb law and order. He stressed that a strong message must be sent that the current government will not tolerate such unrest and chaos.

Meanwhile, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to investigate the disappearance of a person believed to have fallen into a stream after being chased and assaulted by four individuals in Ramban district.

This incident has sparked significant outrage among the public. The victim’s family, identified as Tanveer Ahmed Chopan from Pogal, blocked the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) for over three hours on Monday.

Local residents alleged that Chopan was pursued and attacked by cow vigilantes, while the police stated that an investigation is ongoing. In an attempt to escape his attackers, Chopan jumped into the Bisleri stream near Makarkoot tunnel number 5 around 1:30 PM on Sunday and was swept away.

An FIR has been registered at the Ramsu police station, and all four accused have been arrested.

Ramban District Commissioner Mohammad Ilyas Khan confirmed that an SIT has been established under the supervision of Sub-Divisional Police Officer Surinder Singh Biloria from Banihal. The officer noted that the young man transporting the cattle had the necessary permits to do so.
