Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau Catches Executive Engineer Accepting Bribe in Pulwama

Srinagar, March 28: The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has apprehended an executive engineer from the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department in Pulwama district while he was accepting a bribe. An official reported this on Saturday.

According to the ACB spokesperson, the agency caught a mechanical engineer in the Awantipora area of Pulwama accepting a bribe of ₹12,000.

The accused has been identified as Manzoor Ahmed Dar. This action followed a complaint alleging that the official demanded an illegal bribe in exchange for performing his official duties, prompting the ACB to set a trap.

Officials stated that the executive engineer was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe and was subsequently taken into custody.

This arrest comes amid ongoing efforts by the Anti-Corruption Bureau to curb corruption in government departments and ensure accountability in public services.

A case has been registered under the relevant legal provisions, and further investigation is underway.

Authorities expect more information regarding the nature of the case and the complaint to emerge during the investigation.

The Anti-Corruption Bureau is the primary agency investigating corruption among government officials. It is led by a director and is responsible for overseeing government operations and addressing issues related to financial irregularities.

This specialized, independent agency is tasked with investigating and prosecuting government officials involved in bribery, corruption, and disproportionate asset holdings, including police personnel.

The ACB’s primary objective is to tackle bribery, corruption, and administrative irregularities within government departments.

Its functions include registering cases, conducting investigations, and setting traps to catch public servants accepting bribes.

The ACB operates under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and functions at the union territory level.
