Jamie Overton Surpasses Dhoni with Record-Breaking Performance in IPL 2026

Guwahati, March 31: The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) faced a tough match against the Rajasthan Royals on Monday, collapsing for just 127 runs in 19.4 overs. Amidst the team’s batting struggles, Jamie Overton made history. He scored 43 runs, marking the highest innings by a CSK player batting at the eighth position or lower.

Overton’s impressive performance came at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium, where he hit 2 sixes and 2 fours off 36 balls. At one point, the team had lost 8 wickets for just 82 runs in 12.5 overs, but Overton’s innings helped push the total to 127.

Before Overton, the record was held by Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who scored an unbeaten 37 runs while batting at number eight against the Delhi Capitals in 2024 at Visakhapatnam.

During his innings on Monday, Overton partnered with Anshul Kamboj to add 33 runs for the 10th wicket. This partnership is now the joint second-highest for the 10th wicket in IPL history. Previously, Pat Cummins and Vijayakant Vyasakant had also scored 33 runs for Sunrisers Hyderabad against Kolkata Knight Riders in 2024. The record for the highest partnership belongs to Shikhar Dhawan and Mohit Rathi, who put together an unbeaten 55 runs for Punjab Kings against Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2023, with Rathi contributing just 1 run.

This match also marked the third-lowest score for Rajasthan Royals while batting first in IPL history. CSK had previously scored only 109 runs against RR in Jaipur in 2008 and managed just 125 runs for 5 wickets in Abu Dhabi in 2020.
