Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind Welcomes Supreme Courts Ruling on Vande Mataram

New Delhi, March 25: The Supreme Court has declared that any government directive mandating the singing of Vande Mataram is merely advisory. This decision has been welcomed by the Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind.

The court made it clear that no one can be compelled to sing Vande Mataram, and there will be no punitive actions for non-compliance. Maulana Mahmood Madani, the president of Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind, stated that this ruling upholds constitutional values and religious freedom.

Maulana Madani remarked, “Vande Mataram contradicts our core belief of Tawheed. Therefore, no one can be forced to sing it through any order or directive. Religious freedom is our constitutional right, and there can be no compromise on this. If anyone is pressured, we will approach the court.”

He further emphasized that the Constitution of India provides complete protection for the religious freedom of every citizen. This right cannot be taken away through any administrative directive, governmental pressure, or social coercion. Maulana Madani insisted that forcing any citizen to act against their religion, beliefs, and conscience is a direct assault on the fundamental structure of the Constitution.

Referring to the Supreme Court hearing, Maulana Madani noted that the court had classified the government directive issued on January 28, 2026, as merely advisory, stating it lacks any binding authority.

He warned, “If anyone, be it a student, individual, or institution, is pressured to sing Vande Mataram or their religious and constitutional rights are violated in any part of the country, Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind will seek legal recourse and fight vigorously.”
