Shimla, August 16: Jairam Thakur, the Leader of the Opposition in the Himachal Pradesh Assembly, raised several issues on Saturday, questioning the government led by Chief Minister Sukhu.
In a conversation, Thakur remarked that CM Sukhu claims to be a law graduate. He stated, “He says I do not have a law degree. Let’s assume I don’t. However, I strictly adhere to the rules. He seems to believe that being in the CM position places him above the law.”
Thakur pointed out that before organizing an event at a government institution, Sukhu should have sought the necessary approvals. Instead, he acted as if he was above the law. After the tent was set up, a petition was filed in the High Court seeking approval, but the court noted that it was too late for such requests. “August 15 is a matter of national significance; prior approval should have been obtained,” Thakur emphasized.
He expressed a lack of trust in the CM’s announcements, noting that promises made before the budget and elections remain unfulfilled. “If you are indeed supportive of employees, why are all employees protesting across the state?” he questioned. The plight of current and former employees of the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) is well-known.
Thakur highlighted the unprecedented turnout of thousands of employees in Dharamshala to protest. He also mentioned the Congress party’s recent losses in the Panchayati Raj and urban body elections, acknowledging the deep disappointment it has caused.
On the occasion of Independence Day, Thakur congratulated the citizens. He noted that Prime Minister Modi addressed the nation from the Red Fort for the 13th time, marking the first complete rendition of “Vande Mataram” at the event. “I commend the Prime Minister for this decision,” he stated.
He pointed out significant advancements in defense production and electronic manufacturing over the past 14 years, with mobile production increasing by 33%. Thakur also mentioned plans to advance in the field of AI, aiming to train millions of youth.
“While Naxalism has been eradicated, ideological Naxalism remains a significant issue. Everyone has the right to express their views in a democratic system, but some misuse this right to tarnish the country’s image,” he concluded.
