ISRO Successfully Launches EOS-05 Satellite into Orbit with GSLV-F17

New Delhi, September 4 (Daily Kiran) : The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has successfully completed its mission by launching the EOS-05 satellite into orbit using the GSLV-F17 rocket. The announcement was made via a post on X, stating, “Mission successful! GSLV-F17 has successfully placed EOS-05 into its designated orbit.”

Following the successful launch, ISRO Chairman Dr. V. Narayanan expressed his joy, stating, “I am pleased to announce that the GSLV-F17 vehicle has accurately placed the Advanced Earth Observation Satellite EOS-05 (Geo Imaging Satellite) into its intended orbit. This marks the 107th launch from Sriharikota and the 19th mission of the GSLV. The first GSLV launch was GSLV-D1, which carried a payload of 1,536 kilograms. Since then, we have gradually improved the vehicle’s performance by optimizing its structural mass and enhancing its propulsion system. Today, we have used this launch vehicle to place the heaviest satellite weighing 2,367 kilograms into orbit.”

Dr. Narayanan added that the satellite will be operated by the Indian government, which will also build the launch pad. He mentioned two operational options: employing a large permanent staff or outsourcing operations to private players.

The EOS-05 satellite will continuously monitor and scan India, serving multiple purposes. Dr. Narayanan emphasized that while the term “spying” has negative connotations, the satellite will provide valuable data to ensure the safety of citizens.

He also discussed the Gaganyaan mission, which focuses on human-rated technology. “We must ensure the safety of humans, as this mission involves crewed flights. So far, we have completed approximately 8,000 tests. We plan to conduct three uncrewed missions before the crewed mission, with the first uncrewed launch slated for this year. After reviewing the results, we will proceed with the remaining uncrewed missions before launching the crewed mission.”

According to ISRO, GSLV-F17 is the 19th mission of India’s Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle. It utilized a payload fairing configuration of a 4-meter diameter ogive composite structure. The vehicle successfully placed the EOS-05 satellite into a sub-geosynchronous transfer orbit, launched from the second launch pad at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre.

Minister of State in the Department of Atomic Energy, Jitendra Singh, congratulated ISRO’s team on X, stating, “Another significant achievement for India in the space sector! Congratulations to the ISRO team for the successful launch of GSLV-F17/EOS-05. This advanced Earth observation satellite is India’s first imaging satellite in geosynchronous orbit, offering advanced imaging capabilities across visible, infrared, multispectral, and hyperspectral bands. Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visionary leadership, India’s space capabilities continue to reach new heights, solidifying our position as a global space power.”
