Israeli Airstrikes Claim Lives of Hezbollah Commanders in Beirut

Tel Aviv, May 7: The Israeli military has reported that an airstrike on Beirut resulted in the death of a commander from Hezbollah’s Radwan Unit. Additionally, a strike in Gaza has reportedly killed the son of a Hamas leader.

According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), the airstrike on the southern suburbs of Beirut on Wednesday killed Ahmad Balout, the commander of Hezbollah’s Radwan Unit. The military also stated that two other high-ranking officials were killed in the attack: Mohammad Ali Bazzi, head of the intelligence department of the Nasr Unit, and Hussein Hassan Romani, an air defense observation officer for Hezbollah.

Previously, Hezbollah had launched several rockets at Israeli troops stationed in southern Lebanon, although no casualties were reported from that attack.

Al Jazeera reports that the Israeli military has retaliated by targeting 15 Hezbollah positions, including weapons storage facilities.

Recent official figures indicate that since March 2, Israeli attacks on Lebanon have resulted in at least 2,715 deaths, with 8,353 injuries and over 1.6 million people displaced. This accounts for nearly one-fifth of the country’s total population.

The Times of Israel has also reported that an Israeli strike on Gaza City resulted in the death of Azzam Khalil al-Hayya, the son of Hamas political bureau chief Khalil al-Hayya. Earlier, Khalil al-Hayya had stated that his son was injured in the attack. Hamas official Bassem Naeem later confirmed the death of Khalil al-Hayya’s son in the Israeli strike.

This marks the fourth child of Khalil al-Hayya to be killed in an Israeli attack. Last year, one of his sons died in an Israeli strike targeting Hamas leadership in Doha. Two other sons were killed in 2008 and 2014.
