Tel Aviv, April 8: Amid the announcement of a ceasefire between Iran and the United States, Israel’s conflict on the Lebanese front may continue. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that this two-week ceasefire does not apply to Lebanon. However, Israel has agreed to the ceasefire with Iran.
Netanyahu’s office released a statement saying, “Israel supports President Trump’s decision to halt attacks against Iran for two weeks. This support is contingent upon Iran immediately reopening the Strait and ceasing all attacks on the U.S., Israel, and other countries in the region.”
The statement further emphasized, “Israel also backs U.S. efforts aimed at ensuring that Iran does not pose a nuclear, missile, or terrorist threat to the U.S., Israel, Arab neighboring countries, and the world. The U.S. has informed Israel that it is fully committed to achieving these objectives in upcoming discussions, which align with the shared goals of the U.S., Israel, and its regional allies.”
Additionally, the Israeli Prime Minister’s office reiterated that this two-week ceasefire does not apply to Lebanon.
Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump announced a conditional halt to attacks against Iran for two weeks under the ceasefire agreement. He linked this move to efforts to strategically reopen the crucial Strait of Hormuz.
Iran has indicated a temporary acceptance of this proposal. Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif stated that if attacks on Iran cease, Tehran would also halt its military actions.
