Iranian Navy Fires at Ships in Hormuz Strait: Reports Claim

Tehran, June 13: Explosions have been reported at a port in the Strait of Hormuz. The Iranian Navy allegedly targeted ships on Saturday that refused to comply with their directives.

According to Iran’s state broadcaster, Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB), the Navy fired at vessels attempting to pass through or exit the Strait of Hormuz without Iran’s permission.

Reports indicate that the ships were warned beforehand, but the Iranian forces opened fire as a warning for non-compliance. Iran claims it has implemented special control and coordination measures for navigation in the strait in recent months, stating that action could be taken against vessels passing without authorization or coordination.

Explosions were heard at Sirik port, attributed to serious non-compliance with the Navy’s orders.

Previously, the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) claimed that an Iranian drone targeting commercial ships in Hormuz was shot down by U.S. forces. According to CENTCOM, several “one-way attack drones” were launched with the intent to attack ships, all of which were neutralized, allowing vessel movement in the strait to continue without interruption.

The U.S. military command stated that “the international trade corridor remains open for transit,” and maritime traffic is operating normally.

Amid rising tensions, reports of a potential peace agreement between Iran and the U.S. are emerging, while military activities around Hormuz continue.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most critical maritime trade routes, through which a significant portion of global oil supply passes. In recent months, Iran has repeatedly asserted that vessels must adhere to its security directives to navigate through the strait. Incidents of warning shots, vessel detentions, or returns by Iranian forces have also been reported.

Currently, it is unclear which country’s ships were involved in the recent incident and the extent of any damage incurred. Official responses from the parties involved are awaited.
