Tehran, April 10: Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi has issued a warning to the United States, urging it not to permit Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to disrupt the diplomatic process. Araghchi emphasized that a significant ceasefire has been established after 40 days of conflict.
In a post on the social media platform X, Araghchi stated, “Netanyahu’s ‘criminal trial’ is set to resume on Sunday. A ceasefire across the region, including Lebanon, could expedite his imprisonment.”
He further noted that if the U.S. allows Prime Minister Netanyahu to abandon diplomacy, it would ultimately be their decision. “We believe this would be foolish, but we are prepared for it,” he added.
Meanwhile, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf expressed on X that time is running out, stressing that Lebanon and the resistance axis are integral to the ceasefire.
According to statements released by the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Araghchi also discussed the ceasefire in separate phone calls with his Russian, French, Spanish, and German counterparts on Thursday.
During a conversation with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Araghchi mentioned that Iran has adopted a responsible approach. He stated that if the U.S. fulfills its commitments, a safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz would be granted for two weeks under the ceasefire agreement.
In a call with French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot, Araghchi expressed regret over Israeli ceasefire violations and attacks on Lebanon, calling for international action against Israel. Barrot welcomed the ceasefire and emphasized the need to halt Israeli assaults on Lebanon.
Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares labeled the attacks on Iran as “illegal” and urged all parties to remain committed to diplomatic avenues.
A two-week ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran came into effect on Wednesday, with peace talks scheduled to begin this weekend in Islamabad, Pakistan. Reports indicate that the Iranian delegation will be led by Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, the Speaker of Iran’s Parliament.
Israel has stated that the ceasefire does not include the conflict in Lebanon, a point of contention for both Iran and Pakistan, which is mediating the situation. Just hours after the ceasefire was implemented, Israel launched a significant attack on Lebanon, resulting in over 300 fatalities and more than 1,100 injuries.
