Iran Warns of Closure of Hormuz Strait Amid U.S. Threats

Tehran, March 22: Iran’s largest military command unit, Khatam al-Anbia, has responded to U.S. President Donald Trump’s ultimatum issued 48 hours earlier. Ignoring Trump’s threats, the Iranian military stated that if there is an attack on Tehran’s infrastructure, the Hormuz Strait will be completely closed as a form of punishment.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump warned that if the Strait of Hormuz is not fully opened, major Iranian facilities, including power plants, would be targeted.

The Khatam al-Anbia command, which operates under the direct supervision of the Iranian armed forces’ general staff, clarified its position in a statement. Iran emphasized that if U.S.-Israeli attacks damage its energy infrastructure, it would fully shut down the Hormuz Strait. The statement read, “Hormuz is under our control, and safe passage continues under current regulations. However, if our interests are attacked, we will take decisive action.”

An Iranian spokesperson warned that if its power plants are harmed, not only will the Hormuz Strait be closed, but Israel’s energy infrastructure, power plants, and communication systems will also be targeted extensively.

The statement further indicated that power plants and facilities in the Gulf region where U.S. presence is noted could be potential targets.

However, Iran reiterated that it has not initiated war and does not wish to escalate conflict. It asserted that it will take “every necessary step” to protect its national interests and security. The statement concluded, “We have not started a war, and we will not start one now. However, if our power plants are damaged, we will do whatever is necessary for our country and national interests.”
