Tehran, March 8: Iran has launched an attack on an Israeli refinery following assaults on its energy infrastructure. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) confirmed the operation, stating that the strike occurred on Saturday night at a refinery in Haifa, Israel, as retaliation for U.S.-Israeli attacks on Iran’s energy assets.
In an official statement released through its news outlet, Sepah News, the IRGC reported that the refinery was targeted using Khyber Shekan missiles. Meanwhile, the National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company indicated that Iran’s energy infrastructure sustained damage due to U.S.-Israeli strikes on Saturday night.
The company noted that several oil depots in Tehran and Alborz provinces were hit by missiles, resulting in fires. Firefighting teams are currently working to control the blazes. Heavy attacks were reported over Tehran on Saturday night, with loud explosions heard across various parts of the capital.
On February 28, Israel and the United States conducted joint strikes on Tehran and several other Iranian cities. This offensive resulted in the deaths of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, some of his family members, senior military commanders, and numerous civilians. In retaliation, Iran targeted U.S. and Israeli positions in the Middle East with missile and drone strikes.
Ali Larijani, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, stated on Saturday that the objective of the U.S. and Israel is to fracture and divide the nation. He urged U.S. President Donald Trump to acknowledge his mistakes and recognize the deception from Israel.
Larijani emphasized that the Americans have inflicted deep wounds on the hearts of the Iranian people, which will not be forgotten. In an interview with Al Arabiya, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif mentioned that he and his Saudi counterpart, Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, are in constant communication. He further stated that Saudi officials assured Iran that they would not allow their territory, airspace, or waters to be used against Iran.
