Washington, April 27: Iran has presented a new proposal to the United States aimed at reopening the Hormuz Strait and ending hostilities. Notably, this proposal does not address nuclear issues. Reports indicate that this topic has been postponed for future negotiations. The information comes from a U.S. official and two sources familiar with the matter.
According to Axios, the goal of this proposal is to eliminate the current impasse in negotiations and bypass the disagreements within Iranian leadership regarding nuclear concessions.
The report states, “If the blockade is lifted and attacks cease entirely, the influence of President Trump on any discussions regarding the removal of uranium enrichment stockpiles and halting future enrichment will diminish. This has been Trump’s objective regarding military action against Iran.”
Meanwhile, citing three U.S. officials, the report mentions that President Trump may hold a Situation Room meeting with his top national security and foreign policy team on Monday to discuss the conflict.
Sources informed Axios that Trump’s team will deliberate on the obstacles to negotiations and potential next steps.
In an interview with Fox News on Sunday, Trump indicated that he wishes to maintain a naval blockade to halt Iran’s oil exports, aiming to compel Tehran to concede in the future.
According to Trump’s interview with Fox News, “When there is a significant amount of oil flowing through your system, and for some reason the supply line is cut off, preventing oil from being loaded into containers or ships, the pressure can cause pipelines to burst from within. It can take only three days for such a situation to develop.”
