New York, March 26: The world is grappling with an energy crisis due to the partial closure of the Strait of Hormuz. In this context, President Donald Trump issued a warning on Thursday, stating that Tehran’s time to take negotiations seriously is running out.
Trump posted on the social media platform Truth Social, saying, “Iran must become serious quickly, before it’s too late, because once that happens, there will be no way back, and the situation will not be good.”
He described Iranian negotiators as “very different and strange,” claiming they are begging for a deal while publicly stating they are considering U.S. proposals.
According to the Iranian news agency Tasnim, Iran has responded to America’s 15-point peace proposal with its own five-point plan. Reliable sources indicate that Tehran has sent its formal five-point response through intermediaries.
Tasnim reports that Iran demands recognition of its “sovereignty” over the Strait of Hormuz as a legal right. It also insists that any agreement must guarantee no further conflict. Additionally, Iran seeks an end to assassination campaigns against its leaders, inclusion of “resistance groups” in the peace agreement, and compensation for damages.
Reports suggest that America’s 15-point plan includes reopening the Strait of Hormuz, ending the nuclear program, surrendering uranium stockpiles, and halting ballistic missile programs and their production capabilities.
Tasnim, citing its sources, expressed skepticism about the reality of America’s negotiation offer, suggesting it may be a tactic to keep oil prices low while preparing for new aggressive actions.
Trump noted that Vice President J.D. Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio are participating in talks with his envoy Steve Witkoff and son-in-law Jared Kushner.
He did not disclose the identities of the Iranian negotiators, stating only, “We are talking to the person I consider the most respected and a leader.” Trump also warned that revealing the negotiators’ identities could lead to their assassination.
Earlier, during a cabinet meeting, Trump remarked that they would see if a suitable agreement could be reached, adding that if they do, the Strait of Hormuz will reopen.
He emphasized that keeping the Strait open, a crucial route for 20 percent of the world’s fossil fuel flow, has become a top priority for the U.S. and several affected nations.
